I am a Manchester based portrait and waterscape painter.

Since graduating from Central Saint Martins (2008) with a 2:1 degree in Fine Art I have redirected my practice. After a year spent travelling round the world my work has evolved from emotive portraiture to landscapes and waterscapes. My interest in painting and photographing water is spurred on by my fascination with marine biology and I am currently experimenting with the idea of combining art and science.

My practice initially involved making work about process and replication, using portraiture, drawing and painting as the beginnings of my work. While I am making quite commercial work at the moment it is still in the back of my mind that I am interested in making intense, thought-provoking work and will return to making such work in the future.

The experiences that arise from a piece of work are important to me and I know that a piece of work is finished when the appropriate experience is gained through my work. I think that this is something I always work towards no matter what the subject matter of my work is.

I am using my central Manchester studio space to experiment with new ways of working, new subject matter and to gain experience from working in an artists' community.
